Working Through the Weekend

The long weekend is over.  I got a lot done but it didn't seem like I got anything done at all.  On Friday, I picked up three 10' fence panels plus a 6' gate panel.  I would have loved a block wall but I don't have the time or money for a wall right now.  The ground between the mobile home and the barn-shed is uneven by about 4' so I have to do some digging.

Unfortunately, my fence panels don't quite reach all the way across the yard.  They are short by about 2'.  I'm not sure what I will do about that but I'm sure I'll think of something.  I need to buy another 4 panels for the other side of the yard.

I managed to get the window in.  The old metal mobile home siding is terrible to work with.  The outside looks pretty rough.  I'm sure some caulk and trim will help.

My mother helped with the painting this weekend.  The skirting looks much better brown.  I moved most of the dirt up against the skirting but it needs more work and I need to move all the big rocks out.  I would love to paint the outside of the mobile home but that is low on the priority list.

  The current priorities are:

Plumbing for the bathroom.  The sink has a drain now but it isn't connected to the main drain yet.  I bought connectors for the sink plumbing.  Next step, cut holes for the pipes in the vanity cabinet.  I still haven't tackled the water pump or water heater.

Continue working on fencing.

Build stairs for front door.

Add interior trim.

Vinyl for floor.

And, a million little unfinished details.

And finally, this is a photo of my monster-hybrid sunflower.  I planted it for shade for my porch and it is certainly doing a good job.

I was watching a few minutes of "Ask This Old House," in which they home repairmen make a house call to a letter writer who wanted to have her kitchen sink replaced. The repairmen had to handle a few unexpected surprises before installing the sink and connecting all the hoses and pipes to it. The whole time, I thought about you and how you might tackle this installation. A future career for you? :)

You are making me feel very lazy!

Ha, Dave, I think I relate more to the woman that called them. I can see them looking at my work and thinking whoever did this must have been on drugs.

But Lizzie, you are decluttering while I am spending like a mad woman and filling my houses with tools and construction debris. I'm going to have to spend the next 10 years figuring out this mess.

Looks great! Will chicken wire help with the additional 2' you need?

Dobermom, I need something stronger than chicken wire because of what I am trying to keep out, neighbor dogs, javalina, coyotes.... I was thinking of adding a house security screen door because I think that would be really cool to have a door with a door knob in the fence but they cost $80 same as 6 ft. fence panel so I'll probably buy another panel.
