Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving!

I haven't written in a while because I have been so busy but I had a day off today so I have no excuse not to post something.  We found a nice retirement community for my parents and they have officially decided to move in at the end of December.  We were invited for a free Thanksgiving lunch at the place today.  It is 45 minutes from my house but it is in a town outside of Tucson that is geared for retired folks.  Most of the property there is for ages 55+.  They have activities, transportation, pool, games, etc....  The apartments look great and they serve breakfast and lunch.  The turkey lunch was delicious.  The blocks of cranberry jello were...well...different.

We are trying to figure out what furniture my parents will take with them and what I will need for replacements.  My nephew will be living with me so that gives me a few hundred more things to think about.  This should be really interesting.  My life is totally different from last year.  I knew this could be a possibility some day but now some day is here and I have to figure out how to raise a teenager. Yikes.  I suppose it is a little more complicated than raising a dog?

wow, big big changes. Consistency in 'parenting' has got to be a help though, surely? Good luck. Also maybe think about taking up yoga to keep calm

Daizy, I have some much better desserts here such as chocolate cream pie and a chocolate blackout cake. YUM!

Are you going to be your nephew's official guardian, which would bring some actual authority as well as responsibility for him. With or without that, it is quite a big change to your life. Good luck with that one. :)

Lizzie, I am hoping that having these dogs around will help me stay calm because petting a dog is soothing, right? It's time they earned their keep!

Dave, my father would have appreciated those desserts, ok, so I would have too. My dad kept going back to the dessert table in the hopes that something chocolate had magically appeared.

Yes, we will be doing the official guardianship paperwork. I've located the website and it says 1 court appearance will be necessary. I've never been to court. Gee, I get to do all sorts of new stuff this year.

I am a lurker who has commented a few times. Your caring heart and hard-working character are obvious to the most casual observer, like me. I think you wrote a while back that you thought you would be a parent by this stage in your life. Turns out, you are!

Best wishes in this new chapter of your life.

I know, Miss France, isn't that weird that I thought I would have a kid in 5 years and then all of a sudden, I have a kid. I think the dogs have gotten me used to getting up early, cleaning up messes and running after them. All those skills should come in handy. :)
