And a day earlier than they promised! I am very relieved that my renters came through. This morning at 6am my phone rang. My alarm doesn't go off until 6:30. My caller ID said 'rental house'. Oh no, I thought, a call at 6am can never be good. What could it be? The house burned down? Broken water pipe? Air conditioner broken? My renter says, 'Hi, I have my wife's paycheck here but it is a little bit less than we expected. They forgot to give her her bonus money this month. Is it ok if we pay you $850 now and the other $100 next week?" I am barely awake and so happy that the house hasn't burned down so I say fine, whatever, I'll take $850 now! I couldn't get back to sleep so I lay in bed for a half an hour until the alarm went off. I remember now that he works the night shift. 6am is probably his evening.
Right before lunch I hear the doorbell ring at work and I try to get there before my boss but I don't make it and he is grilling my tenant on who she is and why she wants to see me. I rescue her and she happily hands over the whole $900 rent plus the $50 late fee. She said she notified her work and they were able to fix the mistake and give her the extra money. I am assuming her bonus is some sort of sign on bonus because she just started working as a nurse at a nursing home.
Anyway, I am thrilled that they came through after I gave them a break and let them pay late. They are nothing like my bad old tenants but that doesn't keep the bad memories from coming back. I put that money right in to the bank after work and tomorrow I will arrange my extra mortgage payment. Yea! I love extra mortgage payment day! Time to get out the spreadsheets :)
For those interested in the well-being of my 12 year old nephew. His surgery went very well. They were able to do the reconstructive part of the surgery so he will not need follow up surgery later on. He will still be in the hospital for another week. Hopefully he will be well enough to play football in the Fall. Thanks for all of your thoughts and prayers!
