Trying My Skills With A Little Plumbing

The spout on one of my rainwater tanks has a leak. I spent an hour last Sunday emptying all 300 gallons in to another tank. I didn't want to waste any precious water! Now I have to fix it. I've taken apart the spout so I know which part to buy. Hopefully I can find it at the local hardware store because Home Depot and Lowe's are too far away. I don't want to go all the way across town just for a piece of pipe.

Also, when I was filling up my other water tanks, I decided to fill my RV tank too. The water from this particular rain tank was a bit cloudy and my RV hose uses one of those RV hose filters. When it gets full of sediment the water pressure goes down. Just as I was thinking that I should have waited for the cloudy water to settle before filling up my RV tank, the pump started going on and off. That is the sign that the filter is full. Those filters cost $18 plus tax and I didn't have a back-up. While I was running errands I saw a Walmart and stopped in. I was going to buy two hose filters for about $40 and then I thought that maybe I could buy a whole house filter for $30 instead. Replacement filters are $10 for a 2 pack. This will greatly decrease my costs in the future if I get as much use out of the filters as I did with the hose filters.

So that is my second plumbing job. I need to buy some hose/pipe connectors to add my whole house filter to my water system. I hope it works. I'm getting low on water and I don't have any other way to filter it right now. I don't want to make another trip to Walmart.
