Trash to Treasure: My Flower Power Pants

Here are my lovely thrift store pants that I bought last week. After trying on many, many pairs and going to 2 thrift stores, I finally grabbed them without trying them on because the dressing rooms were less than satisfactory and everything in the store was 50% off which made the pants $2. The pants had a drawstring so I knew I had a good chance that they would at least make adequate lounging-around-the-house pants. What I was really looking for was good-enough-to-wear-to-work pants.

So when I got home I tried them on and they fit wonderfully. They are J.Crew brand which makes me kind of want to go to a J.Crew store and find some more like them but then that wouldn't be very frugal would it? Unfortunately, there were a few splatters of bleach on the bottom of the pant legs. I tried coloring them in with marker but I couldn’t find the right shade. My choices were limited to cutting the legs off to make shorts, cutting the legs a little to make capri pants or covering the stains with some sort of trim. I really need pants not shorts and I am not fond of capris so I went to the fabric store and found some cute daisy trim which was also 50% off but still almost cost as much as the pants. I separated the daisies and laid them out in a pattern that would cover the spots and loosely mirror each other. It took about 2 hours to sew on all of the daisies while I was watching a movie. Since my hands were busy I wasn’t eating popcorn or ice cream which also saved me money and unnecessary calories.

I love how they turned out. They are a nice addition to my wardrobe for under $5.

Those are absolutely awesome! I love your creativity - I have to say, I probably would have made capris before I read your article. Next time I come across clothes with little bleach spots, I'll remember this. Nice job!
