Well I finally went to the grocery store today. I didn’t do as well as I could have. I gave in to a few impulse buys. I wanted to spend $25 but I spent $34. If I really only shop every 10 days then I can spend $33 three times a month.
I bought the extra things I needed for red beans and rice:
Onion, green pepper, garlic, and chicken broth.
Then I bought my regulars:
Watermelon, milk, cheese, tomatoes, pretzels and vanilla ice cream.
What I hadn’t planned on buying but somehow made it in to my cart:
Root beer (for root beer floats), goldfish crackers (for snacks at work), and Ranier cherries (my favorite but $6 a pound on sale. Ouch!).
Now I need to make this food last another 10 days (along with the food already in my pantry). If I could get milk and fruit delivered to my house I could probably go a whole month without going grocery shopping.
My lunches this week will be red beans and rice and spaghetti. I don’t mind eating it more than once. That’s one advantage to cooking for one. I only have to cook for my own tastes.
