The Downsizing Continues

Last weekend went by so fast, as do all the weekends.  On Saturday, we had our company dinner.  It is always at a fancy restaurant that I would never go to.  I forgot to bring my festive clothes from my mobile home so I had to throw something together from my closet.  After many rejections, I finally settled on a blue sundress with red flowers.  With black boots and a black sweater it actually looked nice.  The restaurant was 45 minutes away and I made it on time for once.  I just happened to sit across from the boss and his wife so I tried to keep up the conversation but it was really loud in there.  The food was really good and I was stuffed.  I took home garlic potatoes and beef tenderloin.  My entree cost $38 and I think my boss was going to fire me when I said I was bringing it home for the dogs.  Haha.  Not really.  The dogs only got to share a tiny piece of fat.  I always dread the company dinner but it always turns out ok,  I'm glad it is only once a year though.

The rest of my Saturday involved cleaning and organizing the shed and the small tool room on the side of the house.  I tried to remove a really high shelf but only ended up damaging the drywall so the brackets stayed up.  I put up new brackets lower on the wall so that the shelf would be more practical.  I was lazy though and didn't pre-drill the holes so I was frustrated and ended up just whacking the screws with a hammer.  Those screws are never coming out.  The tool room is much neater now and I took my old bike out of the shed so that I have more room in there too.  I put a "free" sign on the bike and put it on the curb.  Within 30 minutes a guy in a mini-van picked it up.  I hope he fixes it but that's up to him now.  Another one of my projects can be crossed off my list.  I no longer have to fret about new tires and tubes and what to do about that sagging chain.

On Sunday, I went out to my property because it was a beautiful day and I knew it wasn't going to be like that forever.  I painted the rest of one side of the shed.  I think every side is going to be a different color.  I want to use up all of the paint that is in the shed before I buy any new paint.  I brought the rest of my clothes to the house so that I can go through them and give them away.  I have my festive clothes now so I am prepared for next year's company dinner.  I brought my old TV for the 'bulky' trash pickup. It was still in the alley today with the other stuff.  I'm not sure what day they are picking up.  I hope they take it because I don't want to have to haul it to Best Buy but I will if they leave it behind.  I noticed a few trucks driving around the neighborhood with junk piled in the bed.  Someone took the old curtain rod that I put out and the metal track for the bi-fold doors.  I wasn't sure why someone would take those two things and leave the doors but then I realized that they were probably looking for scrap metal.  Metal recycling is a big business.  I wonder how much they got for the metal siding on my old garage.  It would be interesting to know.

Anyway, it is supposed to rain on Friday so I have to remember to bring my wrapped box yard ornaments under cover on Thursday.  I can put them out again on Saturday since it is only supposed to rain one day.  3 more days of work to go before 5 days off!  I'm looking forward to lounging around the house and just relaxing.  I've waited all year for this.

I have that same problem with clothes. I know I need to go through them, sort them, and donate/trash what I don't wear. I keep saying I will, and yet I don't, lol. I better get on it soon! Rain on Friday? I wonder if it will rain in my part of AZ?

Hello Karin! You would think that I could just donate them all since I have been in my new house for 2 years and haven't needed those clothes. I think I get too emotionally attached to them.

I looked up PHX and it says 40% chance for rain on Friday. I usually don't believe it unless it is better than a 50% chance.

I always disliked the annual luncheon my boss treated us to back in my working days. One added perk of working part-time as I did in the last 7 years of working was that I often missed this undesirable event due to scheduling difficulties to include me and a few other part-timers who had complementary schedules. I laughed inside when my boss apologetically told me I would have to "miss" the luncheon in some of those years. I would reply, "That's okay, don't worry about it," hoping (correctly) that it would give her the green light to exclude me the next year if scheduling conflicts continued the following year. YAY!

Dave, you are sly. I certainly won't miss it when I leave this job. It is a good reminder though of what other people consider fun (eating out at expensive restaurants). I would never spend my money that way.

Lizzie, finding homes for my stuff has helped me let go of so much. I am surprised at how liberating it is. I am looking forward to selling, giving and trashing a whole lot more in 2014! Maybe I should do one of those 365 thing challenges. It probably wouldn't be much of a challenge. I have so much stuff!
