Inching Along

After watching some frantic but polite emails go by this morning (My mortgage agent: Deadline tomorrow!!! Underwriting people: That's nice but we still need the assessor's report.) the assessor's report for the window finally came through. Now my bank can send the papers to the title company and they can file their HUD report, hopefully, on time. My realtor asked me if I would be available to sign the papers on Thursday or Friday. I was confused. My realtor hasn't been very good at explaining the process. She said that I can sign the papers now and then they go back to the bank and then back to the title company and that the exchange of money is on the 15th. I don't know how that affects when I get the keys. I hope it speeds things up.

My boss, who just put his house on the market 2 weeks ago, is considering an offer that came in. Unfortunately, today his neighbor called to tell him that his air conditioning condenser unit was stolen over the weekend! That is horrible. I feel so bad for him. I did a quick google search and found this article. http://www.kvoa.com/news/criminals-target-air-conditioners-on-eastside/
I can't believe that this kind of theft made the news just last month and it was only a few miles from his house. Looks like the thieves are still at it. They target vacant homes for sale. The article says they can get $300 for the copper inside and it will cost $1500-$2000 for the home owner to replace. I had heard about this happening at businesses in town and stealing the wire for the ball park lighting in the parks but not at residential homes, at least not in Tucson.

If I ever buy an air conditioner I will have to buy one of those cages for it or put it on the roof if it will hold it. That's a long way off though. I don't have $4,500 to spend on an air conditioner at the moment.

I know. I'm trying not to think about it. I can't believe this is so difficult just to buy a house.

I remember the day of my closing - my bank's lawyer, as in the one with the large check for the seller, showed up late which endangered the closing until we were able to find him (this was more than 20 years ago, so no cell phones).

Dave, that's awful. And these are supposed to be professionals.
