Mortgage Progress For May

May is long gone but I might as well update my mortgage progress anyway. I didn't contribute any extra to the mortgage so only the regular payment was deducted bringing the total to $3,398. The reason that I didn't contribute any extra was because when I stopped my automatic payments it said that it wouldn't go in to effect until July so I wanted to be sure to have enough money in my account for the June automatic payment. Well, I checked my balance on the first of the month and there was no change so I thought it hadn't gone through yet. A few days later I remembered again and checked but still no change. It appears that the automatic payment stopped for June.

I'm sure glad I checked. That would be pretty sad to miss a payment when I am so close to paying it off. The regular payment is not delinquent until the 16th of the month so I want to pay off the mortgage before then. I don't need a new payoff letter either because it says to just add 55 cents per day after the estimated payoff date which was June 1st. I am going to wait until I get my next paycheck on Wednesday and then...unless I get more mystery bills in the mail...I will pay off this pesky mortgage!

So exciting! I can't even imagine the feeling of paying off my mortgage. Mine is currently $460,000!

Well Maire, $460,000 is quite a bit. I do hope you are enjoying your house a whole lot for that kind of money! I could buy a very nice ranch out here in AZ for $460k but I am afraid I couldn't afford the payments! Or the up-keep for that matter.

Very exciting. I have £200K to go but I could sell up one of the houses and lie in the other so I do have an escape route. Mortgage free life would be cool but I will be a while before I catch up!

You've done a great job staying focused on your goal. I'm looking forward to your update when the mortgage is finally paid in full.

Good thing you checked the auto payment stuff. It would suck to make such a gaffe when you are so close to paying the whole thing off.

When is your June incoming rent payment due to you? Will that be enough before the June 16th deadline for your own mortgage so you won't caught in a cash squeeze?

Lizzie, I think your plan sounds pretty good. I don't really have a real home to live in yet so I haven't actually caught up to you.

Thanks Timmy, imagining 30 years of payments really motivated me to get rid of it quicker. 30 years sounds so long.

Me too Executioner! Why do all these strange bills happen when I am so close? I'll get it paid though. Its been dragging on too long.

Ya Dave that would have been awful. I will get my rent payment next week, I already got the notification, so yes, I will have a big enough cushion.

I live in the San Francisco Bay Area so $460,000 is VERY reasonable. :) I am also 28 and married so I have help paying the mortgage. We do hope that one day after we've saved for retirement and paid off our house that we will be able to move and get more property though. We hope to pay off this mortgage as quickly as possible!
