Not There Yet

Ugh...another annoying day at work. It was annoying enough to make me think about quitting today. I could take all of the money in my bank account and almost pay off the mortgage. Then I could put the flooring and other rental house improvements on a Home Depot charge card and get no interest for 6 months. Assuming my rental house gets rented in March, I could survive for 6 months and then I would be in big trouble when it was time to pay that credit card! You might have guessed that I did not quit today.

Tomorrow I get the wonderful chore of sorting someone else's trash. My tenants filled both cans to overflowing. The big problem with that is one of those cans is for recycled items only and I will get fined if it is full of trash so I get to sort it out. Trash day is early Friday morning so I definitely want to get those cans out to the curb for pick up so I can use those cans for my own trash and recycling.

The Home Depot installation services guy stopped by to measure my house. I never heard back from him. From the in-store estimate that I got a few weeks ago, I am hoping that carpeting the 4 bedrooms only costs $800. That's what I have in my budget. I hope I hear from him tomorrow.

It is too bad that this previously fairly reliable source of income has become a money pit, albeit a temporary one. Mortgage or not, this passive income stream can dry up at any time.

I hope you can get the rental place fixed up soon so it can return to being an income source. In the meantime, your other goals have to be put on hold for a little while. Seems like you find another snag every day.

I'll be following your progress on this like I have been for a while.

I don't think I would call my rental house passive. Maybe after I hire a property manager it will feel more passive.

Daizy, I've been reading your blog for a few months now & I'm always amazed at how accepting & realistic you are about whatever comes up. It seems like you're hitting lots of snags now, but the big picture is, you're doing great, and it's so helpful how you post all you're dealing with. You'll get through this & be on down the road! Just not really envying you at the moment. Don't fancy bin sorting at all. Hope its all sorted soon and you are back to only having the dogs to worry about.

PS something I didnt realise about my lovely new ceramic floor. Spill even an invisible amount of water and they are ridiculously slippery. i am like Bambi on the ice out there sometimes.

Thanks EiLyn! I knew I was going to have to make these repairs sooner or later. I was hoping for much later. It's better this way. It keeps me from quitting my job too soon.

Lizzie, the garbage was pretty nasty and my plastic gloves were so old they broke. It wasn't pleasant but someone had to do it. Actually, I didn't mind the break from staring at my computer all day. Of course a nap would have been better.
