Oop, My Dog Ate My Power Cord

I was watching hulu.com tonight while one of my dogs was lying next to me. I always try to make sure the power cords aren't within reach but I missed one and oops, he chewed it. It was letting off little sparks in the dark. Now my netbook has less than 2 hours of battery power and it is going to take a few days to order a replacement so I think I am going to miss a few blog posts. I've done a little research on the power cords available. Looks like there are the original cords that are around $30 and then there are the cheap cords for $8 but I would run the risk of them not working or frying my netbook. I'd rather not take that risk so I am going to order the $30 cord that is the same model number as the one I have. I hope they have fast shipping!

You could try taking your netbook into radioshack they might have a universal one.

Many years ago, my roommate's cat had an appetite for various non-electric cords. He chewed up my phone jack cord and nearly chewed through my Walkman's card. The latter was still functioning because I caught the cat in time. But the latter made the phone inoperable. My roommate replaced the cord (he happened to have a spare one) and I then had to make sure I closed the bedroom door whenever I was away.

We have had to replace a few powercords for a our netbooks and always order them from
Amazon.com. They have all worked and are much cheaper.

Anonymous, Radio Shack does have them but they are around $60. A friend of mine told me that she went there and they sales guy actually suggested that she buy the expensive one from Radio Shack and then when she found a cheaper one she could return it...and that's what she did!

Dave, at least phone cords aren't too expensive. Good thing that cat didn't have a taste for more high tech stuff.

Anonymous, after searching Amazon and ebay, I went with ebay. It was only $6 with free shipping. I found one for $8 on Amazon but the shipping was another $5. Hopefully it will work.

I wish I lived closer to you. A plier, a solder iron and some heat-shrink tubing works wonders with disrupted power cords.
At least as a temporary solution.

That $6 one I am sure is made and shipped from China. Caution: After you received it. Plug and use it like you normally do. Then touch and feel the transformer body for any unbearable or abnormal heat.(It could melted and cause house fire). Report the problem and they will send you a new one. Those part are produced so fast and cheap and there are no quality control at all. The customer is their final inspector.

KoBold, thanks for the offer! I plan to take the cord in to work for our engineer to tinker with but I want to get my replacement cord first just in case it doesn't turn out well.

Tom, thanks for the tip! I will definitely be careful with it.
