Digging For Dogs

Christmas shopping went well today. The crowds weren't too bad. I hope I can get most other gifts online or at my Christmas destination because shopping takes up so much of my weekend. Next weekend I want to stay away from all stores. People in the checkout lines were already getting impatient. Grumpy crowds are no fun.

Back at home I tried digging the holes for my dog fence. I managed to dig about 10 inches and get 2 posts in. The holes under the tree are much easier to dig. The others are going to take a bit longer.

I filled them with water and 20 minutes later they were still full of water. I can dig about an inch every 20 minutes. Slow but I'll get there eventually. I have 4 more holes to dig, or more if my spacing is too wide. Next weekend I have 4 days off so I only need to dig one hole each day. Sounds easy to me!

Any rain in the forecast? Probably take a whole lot to soften that ground up though.

How much to rent a had held gas auger? You'd be done in an hour or two.

No rain which is bad because my tanks are pretty low. I do still have back-up tanks though.

The neighbor said he looked in to renting one and it was expensive. I don't think I could wrestle one of those. If I had lots of extra water I could hook up my pressure washer. The ground really does magically soften with water. Erosion is great when it's in the right places. I am diging above my septic leach line too. Don't know how far down they are but haven't hit anything yet.

That's a heck of a lot of manual labor, but it will really work up those biceps! ;)

When my husband got sick with Cancer two months ago there was still ALOt of work to be done on our new (fixer upper)house with alot of it being manual labor.
For awhile with the surgery and Chemo he just can't do anything heavy. I just take it one day at a time and always do something everyday no matter how little. Even if you dig down 1 inch everyday eventually it will be done. Thats the mind set I have been useing and I have finished a project that I never thought I could do. It took alot longer than what my husband could have done, but it is done, I am exhausted but it feels very rewarding.

Money Funk, I often think about those people who pay for gym memberships while I am digging holes. They could pay me and I'd let them dig holes for me. :)

dottie, so sorry to hear about your husband. I am glad you are finding satisfaction in continuing the project. I love finishing projects that seem way out of my league. Breaking them down in to tiny steps makes all the difference.
