One Expensive Puppy

Grand Total: $416. Can I stop buying puppy stuff now? I still need a few things- a ball or some sort of non-food toy, a water dish that she can't tip over, and a collar that fits. I forgot about toys. She has been playing with towel rags. That works for the moment. She tipped over her water dish when she tried to play with it. The towel rag 'toys' came in handy to soak up the water. And I bought her a large collar thinking it would be adjustable but it won't adjust that small. She can slip out of the rope collar that came with the leash if she turns her head the right way. Luckily she comes back when I call her.

I thought I lost the puppy this morning. I put her in one of the cages that I bought yesterday while I went inside to get something. She was gone when I came out. I thought I was going to have to call the rescue organization and admit that I was a failure as a foster mom. Luckily I found her on the other side of the RV. Good thing she didn't see a rabbit, she would have been long gone. I need to patch the hole in that cage.

I bought a chain link dog run this morning from craig's list. The people were very nice. They took it apart and loaded it up for me. It was so hot outside that the metal was burning to touch as I unloaded it. I think I won't be able to work on putting it up until next weekend. I have plenty of pens and cages now. I just need to set them up so they are usable.

Tomorrow I hope I will hear from my renters. Is no news good news or bad? I'm getting worried. My mortgage payoff plan depends on renters who actually pay rent. They were such good renters at the beginning. I hope they don't disappoint me.

I am guessing most of that stuff is up front cost, so next time you foster a doggy, hopefully it will be much cheaper.

Hope the renters come through too.

Once I get started with craig's list I keep going and going. I need to stop and re-evaluate my needs. Right now setting up an outdoor area with shade should be my priority. It's easy to buy, not so easy to do the work. I did repair the small outdoor kennel at least...that is, until she learns to dig.

I think it's great that you're doing this. My wife and I adopted a dog from a foster home two years ago. It's been a great experience. With so much need out there, I don't think I'd ever get a dog any other way.

Executioner, yes, it's a great way to get to know the animals because the foster homes know their personalities. I would adopt thru them too. It is more expensive than adopting straight from the pound but the money goes back in to the rescue so I think it's still a good deal. Adopt a dog or cat and save some more!

Hey, I think it's great you have something to do besides sort through your stuff on weekends and shop. Now you've got a "hobby" that will always be challenging you. And doing something new and different. Yea!

By the way, tenants stop being "the good tenants" when they stop paying their rent on time. I think they need a new name ;)

Big Sis, challenging is right. This dog thing is a whole new world. I think it's funny when people give me conflicting advice. They really are like parents and kids. Everyone has their own way of doing it 'right'. So confusing.
