I had great plans to organise my stuff this weekend but, as usual, I barely made a dent. Everywhere I look there is stuff. Stuff I should sell, stuff I don't need, stuff to give away. And yet with the current unsettling situation at work, I can't seem to work up the motivation. Maybe I will need it later. Maybe I should sell it later if I lose my job. Maybe I should just give it away so that it isn't taking up space. Maybe I should wait and see if I lose my job because then I will have plenty of time to sort. Why waste my weekends now?
I slept in this morning and then got up to go to the post office and wait in line to get my certified letter back. This is the letter that I sent to my old tenants telling them I had their stuff. The line was long and I didn't like that I had to waste any more time because of my old tenants. This was a bad start to the weekend and it put me in a bad mood. I came home, ate lunch, took a nap and watched tv. I finally went outside at 3 and searched for any building materials that I could use to build a large shelf in my shed. With my reduction in pay and the draining of my maintenance fund, I no longer have any money for extras. Yes, I could reduce my mortgage repayment amount but I think I should try to pay off as much of the mortgage as I can while I still have a job.
Anyway, I found some 2x4 pieces of wood and a sheet of particle board in the garage. Unfortunately the particle board was too heavy for me to lift so that wasn't going to work. Later I found a 2 1/2 ft x 7 1/2 ft board in my mobile home which the former owner used to block a doorway. It is old and ugly and only 1/2" thick but I think it might work. I dragged my building material to the shed but then got stuck when I didn't have enough brackets and my nails and screws were too short. I'll have to think of something else or buy a box of longer screws.
I went back to sorting. I managed to empty 2 boxes in to one box. That is a start. The sun was going down so I went back to the RV and then remembered that I was supposed to look for my silverware in the mobile home. I had taken my silverware to the rental house but then the dishes that I bought came with cheap silverware so I thought I brought mine back. Now I can't find it. I am bummed about that. I have 4 dozen glass glasses but barely any good silverware. I hate to think that it was thrown away.
Well, maybe tomorrow will be more productive.

Sorry about the silverware. Hope it turns up.
Organize for a garage sale after your short termers move out maybe?
I've got a ton of sample screws, nails, brackets and other stuff from when my sister used to work for a hardware company. Too bad she didn't work for a donut shop.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
The garage sale was my intent but I am feeling a bit paralysed by all the decisions to keep or sell. Makes me want to curl up in the corner and take a nap.
Maybe your retirement job should be at a donut shop, just for the perks.
Hi Daizy, you're probably really tired from the 'week of hell' that you had, so the last thing you want to do is tackle all that stuff. You'll get it done eventually - if I lived nearer I'd help you :)
Daizy you may want to put your extra money in the bank for a while instead of toward the mortgage principal if there is risk of losing your job. Unless it is a HELOC mortgage you are paying off, your money is locked up there and will not be available for you to live on if you need to find a new job. Just something to think about.
Hi Daizy
I think you are bound to feel a bit deflated after all that 'excitement'. You kept going when plenty of people would have just given in. The work situ is just something more to worry and unsettle. By next weekend you will be feeling much better, i am sure. Any chance of using free cycle for some of your needs?

Hi there-oh, you've been doing really well, hope Sunday is a better day for you my dear, hope you find the silverware too.
In addition to what AlexK said, another reason you may want to pay only the minimum on your mortgage is that what you do not pay now can be saved to make a regular payment later. In the event you do lose your job this will extend the amount of time you can pay your mortgage while looking for income replacement.
Laura, I was thinking of your business while I was sorting the house. I do like organising but my own stuff is too hard. Sorting other people's stuff is much easier. That's why I switched back to sorting the tenant's stuff today. Much better. Trash...trash...trash...
AlexK, you are always one step ahead of my posts :) My emergency fund is in a CD right now. I have enough to last 10 months to a year if my mortgage is being paid by a renter. If I got unemployment payments it would last longer. The CD will rollover in 2 weeks but I think I will take it out just in case my job goes away. My next extra mortgage payment won't be until the end of Feb. I'll see how things look with the job before I make the payment.
Hi Lizzie, thanks for reminding me about freecycle. I signed up a long time ago but never used it. I'll have to sign up again. There are some things that I would like to give away and who knows, maybe there will be something I need.
Sharon Rose, silverware was found and my mood greatly improved! Thanks for the good thoughts!
Anonymous, I am hoping to have a long-term renter to cover the mortgage but who knows, my prospective renter could lose her job and then what?
I figured you would have the "F-you" fund covered but I didn't see it mentioned.
