So Many Unpredictable Bills!

I had 2 skin cancers removed last month. I had no idea how much it cost. Today I called my health insurance provider to see if one of my small claims had been processed. It hadn't but I listened as the recording recited all of my other claims in process. The total came to $10,000! I can't believe how expensive 2 little skin cancers are. I am not sure how much my insurance pays. If they pay 90% I will still owe $1,000. That's a lot of money. With bills like that I wonder if I should have a bigger amount in short term savings. It's a good thing I haven't invested my little nest egg yet. I need to find out what my final bill will be. I wish doctors had a menu of services and fees like a restaurant. Then I would be able to save up or at least be mentally prepared before the bill arrives!
