Fixing Things One At A Time

It was a lovely day today. The weather was cool but not too cold. I got to take a nap, watch a movie, cook a little bit and get some chores done. A while back I put mulch in the dog run in the hopes that it would keep the dust down. Well, it did help with that but my cocker spaniel had velcro hair and he drags in bits of mulch all day long. I have to sweep twice a day just to keep it from getting out of hand. I think I will try a mix of sand and gravel for the dog run. I scooped up a couple of buckets of gravel from a disintegrating bag that I bought 2 years ago. It was one of those chores that I intended to do many times but never did it. It didn't cover a lot of area but I think it will work out well if I buy some more. I don't remember how much that bag cost but I figure I need 10 more bags and 5 bags of sand. I don't know when I will have time to work on that project though. Maybe I can get to Home Depot next weekend.

I also managed to get one load of laundry done. I threw it all in together and my washing machine didn't like it. It wouldn't spin and started making loud clunking noises so I rearranged the clothes and tried again. Same thing. I thought it was broken but I took some out and tried again and thankfully, it worked. I was just thinking that I could pay off my last property tax bill with the paycheck this week. Having to buy a new washer would set me back another month.

And my last chore before the day was over was to put away the swamp cooler at the end of the hall. I must admit that wasn't a great purchase. It only holds 4 hours worth of water and there is no timer so if I started it at 7 it would run out of water by 11 and then it would get really hot in the afternoon. Plus the hose came off after a few months and I had to take it apart and connect the hose again. It was very cheaply made, not worth $150 at all.

After moving the cooler I saw that the linoleum underneath was dirty and coming apart so I cleaned it up and nailed more vinyl tiles over the area. Hopefully it will be easier to clean because my blind cocker seems to like to step in his water dish then go outside and then track in all sorts of dirt.

So...what to look forward to... Well, payday, of course. I'm sure there is more I just can't think of it right now.

Oh and the rummage sale for our dog group that I didn't attend made over $2,000 today! That is great. I think we have $5,000 in outstanding vet bills so that will certainly help.

I cant make up my mind if you had an excellent day or not so good at all. Apart from the velcro dog and the washer it all sounds pretty good.

It was a good day. I wish I could have a whole month of those days so I could get ahead of all the stuff that gets broken and worn out. I swear stuff breaks while I am at work on purpose just to make me run around frantically on the weekends trying to fix things.
