In February my company laid off 23 people. None of them were from my office so it didn't affect me directly. What did affect me was the 10% pay cut. Nothing else has happened since then so I started to relax a little. I took a few vacation days and went to Disneyland, I went to Nascar, and I even bought some new clothes. Well, today I went in to work and one of our people was missing. They laid her off. Just last month they were telling her she had nothing to worry about, our office was safe. Now they are telling me, don't worry, you have nothing to worry about. I just stare at them with a horrified look on my face and say 'that's what you told Shelly'.
Ok, so it wouldn't be the end of the world if I got laid off. If my house stays rented I have 10 months of living expenses plus unemployment money. I know of a job that I could probably get right now although I would have to relocate. I do hope I keep my current job for at least one year and 7 months. Then my mortgage will be gone and I can get a fun job. I saw 2 cake decorator wanted signs in the last 2 weeks. That is a job I would like to try some day. I have lots of alternative plans, just in case, but it's the unknown that makes me nervous.
