Hot Dog Wheels

My dog has wheels.  He hates his wheels.  I suppose this will take some getting used to.  I found this used dog wheelchair through the Best Friends Mobility website.  I don't think it was used at all because the wheels were set up as two left sides and it took a hammer, pliers and WD-40 to loosen the bolts so I could fix it.  I suspect the previous owner of this rig got too frustrated putting it together and sold it.  It took me two hours to put it together and I haven't even adjusted it for my dog yet.  It isn't much good indoors since the wheel span is too wide.  He gets snagged on everything.  I intend to use it for walks so that he can go with us on our usual route.  He isn't paralyzed yet, just very weak in his back and hind legs.

After researching wheelchairs for a while I decided on this Sitgo model because it is hinged and suppose to allow the dog to sit and lie down.  We will see if he can get the hang of it.

In mobile home news, my tenant ran out of water so I had to ask the neighbor if I could get water from his water meter.  The water meters are a mile away and people who have them will haul water to their homes as needed.  I was planning to use my two 55 gallon barrels to make 2 or 3 trips so that I would not have to bring water out from my house, 30 minutes away.  My very generous neighbor offered to bring 500 gallons of water over in his tank.  It was 100 degrees again and we were all sweating but he brought the water and I was thrilled.  Then he went to start his super-duper water transfer pump which would have emptied the tank in 15 minutes, and the rope broke on the starter.  Ugh.  We managed to get the water out with gravity and my little, slow sump pump.  It took an hour and a half.  I was so fried by that time.  My main reason for going out there was to clear out my stuff from the storage room where the (now dead) mice had invaded.  I only got one box and one bag, my head was pounding, and my nephew needed to be picked up from his school event so I left.  I'll go back in a couple of weeks.

This week Chase bank updated their website and now I can't access my account.  It is driving me crazy.  I usually check my account a couple times a week.  It's almost the end of the month and I need to move some money around.  A call to customer service got me nowhere.  They put in a trouble ticket 2 days ago.  Still no answer and no access.  I could get to my account on my smartphone briefly, but not today.  It is unsettling to be cut off from my money.  I need to know if I have enough for my extra mortgage payment this month.  Vet bills + wheelchair cost around $2,000.  I can absorb that if I spread it over a couple of months.  Next month is my biggest bill month though because of property taxes.  Sure, I could pay half the taxes now and half in December but December is not a good month for paying bills.  I like to get taxes paid and out of my head for another year.

Tomorrow I get to visit our manufacturing plant in Mexico.  it is always fun to see the people that I talk to on the phone.  I should bring candy.  Maybe mini-Twix.  Chocolate always helps international relations. :)

Awww that is great you are trying the wheel chair. I hope it works out! I hear you on the Chase update. Although I think my access has been OK, it has been a big change.

I had never thought about them for a dog that wasn't paralyzed. Turns out they are good for physical therapy too. I'm glad I looked in to it.

I saw the new site once before it refused to let me in. I didn't like it. Too big and blocky. I can't see all my accounts on one screen. I miss that because I like to easily see if my savings has enough to cover my credit card. Oh well. Progress. What can I do. I can only give them negative feedback if I can ever get in again.

I would not like not being able to access my account, and would find that very stressful. I hope you get that resolved very very soon. i didn't know the poor doggie was so incapacitated. I hope he can get around better and learns how th system works

Your ordeal with water makes me glad that for me it is as simple as turning on a faucet!

My friend has Chase and while she hasn't had any lockout issues, she doesn't like how the website rearranged all of her bills, making it tougher to navigate.

Because my computer was broken, I had surgery, got a new computer which was rendered useless by Office Max, I could not access my online account. I had to either call for balance and check paid or go to the bank and get a print out. Finally, I felt well enough to walk in and asked for the man who was so friendly and said he could help me get set up again. Well, my computer was locked out of my account. I called back and talked to some woman who said, No, he did it wrong. It was such an ordeal and stressful. I managed to be overdrawn, costing me money. Online banking is great when all goes well. When employees don't know what they are doing, it makes my life miserable!

His dear little face, he looks long suffering, like kids with embarrassing mothers (i.e. like my kids!)

Forgot to say, agreed, chocolate and international relations. You should be in charge of the planet :)

Chase customer service called me back today while I was driving home. I'll have to call them back Monday. I was able to get on the site with my phone last night so at least I know how much is in the bank. So inconvenient though.

I do appreciate my magic faucet at my house. So effortless. That is one of the main reasons for living back at the house this year.

The new design is terrible. I liked being able to see all of my accounts on one page. Now it is broken up and I have to scroll down. I suppose I will get used to it if I ever get in it again.

So true. It is great when it is working. That is terrible that you got locked out and overdrawn. I hope they didn't charge you a fee for that.

Yep, he wouldn't look at the camera, poor guy. Even though he hated it, it gives me peace of mind that he will still be mobile even if he can't use his back legs. I was trying to drag him to the door on the tile and it was not working at all. He's a little better now so he can get to the door on his own but I was seriously thinking of buying some sort of cart or dolly to haul him around.

Lol, I delivered the candy and I think they liked it but there was a language gap. I really should learn more Spanish.

When my dog's leg strength became compromised by Cushings I put him on a cart when we went on walk. It worked really well. Since his front legs are ok you can also put a sling around his back legs and support him like you are carrying around a bag of groceries. The sling also avoids the possibly uncomfortable back arch when the dog sits down in the wheelchair.

Did you ever get a chance to try the deep egg crate foam as orthopedic bed idea?

Sending good thoughts your and Jimmy-dog's way.

Candy really is the international currency, isn't it?

Sorry about the hassles with the water and moving stuff and Chase, too. I use them for our brick and mortar bank but most of our real transactions are through Fidelity's Cash Management account, which I much prefer. Chase is just for when we have physical checks that are above the dollar limit for mobile deposit. As an institution, I haven't found them to be great.

I haven't bought the egg crate yet but it is on my list for the next 20%off coupon at Big Lots. He has need improving a bit and actually wanted to get on the bed a few times. I still have to hoist him up there but I encouraged that some of his energy is returning.

Chase finally got back to me but as soon as they found out it was my work computer that wasn't opening their site, they said there was nothing they could do. The old site worked fine, the previous service rep even turned the old site back on briefly so we could check. I can only hope that other people have the same problem so it gets fixed.

I hope your dog is used to his wheelchair by now. My brother's 12 year old Labrador has a wheelchair of her own. Her hip is killing her but with the new mobility, she is up and walking fast. My deftly-abled brother managed to make the wheelchair by himself to save money and to better customized the fit for his dog. It looked marvelous by the way and so inexpensive to do. Now, he plans to make ones for people with dogs that need ones but can't afford it. Most of the DIY projects he made was sourced throught Youtube and this informative site he just stumbled upon http://dogsaholic.com/care/how-to-make-a-dog-wheelchair.html
