Getting Ready for Company

It was a pretty good weekend.  It would have been better if it had been a 3 day weekend but those don't happen very often.  On Saturday I visited my parents and helped sort through photos to put in some frames.  Life sure has changed since those days when I was a kid.  I can't believe I am in my forties now.  On the way home I stopped at the pet food store and then Home Depot for some play sand.  I'm trying to make a sandbox for my sister's kids to play in when they visit next week..

The rest of the weekend was spent cooking, cleaning and watching Netflix.  I organized the boxes in the guest room so that my guests will have room to walk around the bed.  I sorted out the toys and comic books for the kids.  One of these days I have to go through all of that stuff and get rid of at least half of it.  I made beef stew again.  It turned out pretty well but I used more pepper this time.  I probably should follow a recipe so that it turns out the same each time.

I didn't  make it to the grocery store because it has been around 105F outside and that just kills my motivation to go outside.  I should at least buy fruit and vegetables tomorrow after work.  I'm down to only frozen and canned.  I have cleaned out most of the old food and the cupboards are starting to look bare.  Pretty soon my food choices are going to be down to boxed mac and cheese (leftover from my nephew) and spaghetti.  I am looking forward to low grocery bills now that I am back to just feeding myself.   No more than $50 a week.  I think I can do it if I get back to planning my meals and shopping list carefully like I used to do...after the visitors leave, that is.  Hmm...I bet they will be happy to help me get rid of the boxed mac and cheese.  Maybe they will eat the mandarin orange slices too.  I bought a large box of the single serving cups and then my nephew decided he was tired of them.
