Next Step, Flooring

Renovation total so far: $1,300. I finally had a chance to sit down and add up the receipts and it came to a little less than I thought mostly because my handyman ripped out the carpet at lightning speed and was done by 11:30 this morning.

I went over there at lunch and paid him and then set out my samples to see how they looked.

I had stopped at Home Depot today on the way back from taking a dog to the vet. I was driving back, thinking about how I wished I had some samples of the Allure vinyl flooring and then I realised that I was right next to a Home Depot so I ran in and grabbed all of the samples that I could get for the in-stock choices and then hurried back to work.

I really like the dark one in the middle with the brown and bluish colors and it seems to go with my countertop. The other two are my carpet choices. The wood patterns did not match my cabinets very well but I think having the dark tile in between the wood vinyl and the cabinets will make it look ok.

This is another view of the living room/kitchen/dining area. The main reason that I decided not to go with the wood laminate is that I know the renters are going to eat in the living room because it is right there and they'll spill stuff and I didn't want the floor to warp. With the vinyl I won't have to worry about warping.

Next step is cleaning up the mess left behind by the carpet. I'm taking my vacuum and tool box over there tomorrow and if I am lucky I can get out of work early to take the big leap and buy my flooring.

I like the dark tile too.

I have wood laminate in my home and I love it, but you do have to be vigilant about spills. It would not be my first choice for a rental house.

Well, I changed the plan so hopefully it will turn out ok. I'll be glad when it's all done and I can go back to boring posts about my mortgage payoff plan.

Ya Dave, so do I. Especially when I can make a big payment which isn't going to happen for a while.
