Dogs And Gila Monsters

The weather was so nice today that I decided to take the dogs for a morning walk. Usually we only walk in the evening. We took our normal route down the road but at a more leisurely pace and I let the dogs stop and sniff when they wanted to. There is one spot where the road cuts through a small hill and there is a dirt wall on each side where the ground squirrels like to dig their burrows. Toto wanted to sniff the holes but the leashes got tangled and by the time they were straight he was interested in something else. On the way back I saw something move in one of the holes. I thought it was a squirrel or maybe a small lizards. I looked closer and it was a Gila Monster! It was about a foot long. Luckily the dogs didn't see it.

I managed to hold all three leashes with one hand and take a picture. If little Toto had stuck his nose in there I would have been looking at thousands of dollars in vet bills and probably a dead doggy in the end.

The next time I think about quitting I must remind myself that I want a big secure block walled yard for the dogs first. Then the dogs will have a safe place to explore (except for the killer bees, can't fence them out) so I won't feel the need to let them roam when we walk.

How cool. I get excited when I see a turtle or an otter. A gila monster is neato!

Glad you are back Lizzie. I'll settle for a big walled yard. Who needs a house?

Over the Cubicle, an otter would be cool. I don't think I have ever seen one in the wild.
