Sorting Sewing Supplies

Next weekend my friend's sewing group meets. I thought about joining it once but after a trip to the fabric store (holy cow! fabric costs how much???) decided that buying clothes at the thrift store was easier and cheaper. The group meets at her house maybe twice a year and rotates to other houses every month. For 2 years now I have wanted to bring my sewing notions and fabric to see if her group wants to buy any of it. The meeting is at her house next Saturday and I finally took a moment to go through my stuff and separate the things I would like to sell. I have approximately 5 bags of fabric, elastic, trim, etc....(the picture is of my embroidery machine that I sold on ebay a couple years ago.)

I also found the notebook where I wrote down the costs of my sewing hobby when it began. I spent almost $1,000 on a sewing machine, embroidery machine and all the stuff that goes with them. The machines were sold a few years ago and now hopefully I can sell the rest of the stuff. What I learned from my leap in to sewing is that it isn't necessary to buy all of that stuff.

Now I have a simple sewing machine that sews straight and zigzag that my sister gave me as well as a sewing box that my mother gave me. I can do simple repairs and small projects like dog beds with recycled materials and it doesn't have to cost a fortune. Too bad it cost me $1,000 to learn that lesson.

I am lucky if I can sew a button.

Good luck with selling all of your excess stuff.

I must admit I am keeping more than I should. Is it unnatural to have an emotional attachment to fabric?

depends on the reason I suppose. Is it just some random fabric or something that was (or reminds you of) something meaningful?

It reminds me of a hobby that I spent a lot of money on. :) But it's cute fabric. Someday I'll make something out of it...someday...
