New Free WiFi Spots From Qwest

Qwest, my internet provider, sent me an email this week. It went to my junk mail folder and I almost deleted it as useless advertising but I decided to look first. The email announced that Qwest customers can now get free WiFi at many locations across the nation. This looks like it is a result of Qwest and AT&T's merger or take-over or whatever it was. Well, I thought, I am sure there are not going to be any locations near me. I looked on the map and noticed that all of the locations were Barnes and Noble bookstores, Starbucks, or McDonalds. I was able to zoom in on the map and I found that WiFi is available at the McDonalds that is closest to me. Ok, so it is still 15 minutes away but that is still closer than say, the library which is 25-30 minutes away which was the closest free WiFi spot before this. And by free I mean no pressure to buy anything at all because there are coffee shops and bagel shops that are closer than the library but I would feel like I had to buy something and that would get expensive.

Now all I need is a $200 mini-netbook like the ones they are advertising on tv now and I can write my blog on the go! Ok, so I don't really have a need to write on the go just yet but if I ever take some time off (or quit) and do some traveling it is good to know that I can get free Wifi at those locations. I would stop at McDonalds occasionally while travelling so that would be convenient. Barnes and Noble would be nice because I wouldn't feel pressured to buy anything. I have never been in a Starbucks in my life so I doubt I would use that one.

Anyway, I am happy that Qwest has finally expanded my service without charging me anything or requiring a new contract. A free perk is great once in a while. And maybe someday I will actually need WiFi and use it.

Cool. This blog is giving away a netbook if you're feeling lucky -

Interesting. 29 pages of contest entries already. I think I'll just save my money for it. Entering contests seems like begging to me sometimes.
