Letting Go Of The Hotel Bottles And Soaps

I am a collector. I collected hotel soap when I was a kid. Whenever my dad would go on a business trip he would bring back the soap for my collection. I have continued the tradition by collecting soap, shampoo and conditioner, and lotion from hotels. But now they are just clutter. Some people give away the tiny bottles to homeless shelters. I think I should do that for any that I collect in the future. The old ones, though, are really old. I'm not even sure they are what they say they are. I might have used them and re-filled them with something else. I do use 2 bottles when I travel but I don't need 20 bottles!

So, in an effort to clean out my cabinet, I am going to make an effort to use up all of those little bottles and finally get rid of them. By putting all of the little shampoo and conditioner bottles in my shower, they are in easy reach and I remember to use them. So far I have found that half of the conditioner is horrible stuff. Doesn't work at all. I am finding that out with the little lotions and soaps too. They smell nice and then dry up and my skin is just as dry as before. Sometimes they don't even smell nice. At least none have given me a rash ...yet. Anyway, the point is that I was hanging on to these cute little useless bottles that were taking up space. It's time for them to go!

Collections are so hard to part with on a personal level. Sometimes clutter is worth hanging onto, and sometimes it is just clutter. It is hard to separate the two.

At least soap and shampoo are readily available so I can tell myself that I can get more. My other collections are not so easily replaced but just as useless. Childhood stuffed animals for example.

I still have a stuffed animal I got when I was two years old. I don't remember having any other ones.

I can lend you some of mine...I have plenty. :)

Why not look around for younger collectors of hotel supplies? Your 'vintage' bottles may be a treasure for someone 20 years younger and no access to '80s designs.

KoBold, I checked ebay and did find a small market for Vegas and Disney hotel soaps and shampoo. Mine are from Holiday Inn and Motel 6 budget motels. Not highly sought after items.
