Shopping Temptation

I was sucked in by Fry's (Kroger's) 10 Item Sale. They run a special every once in a while, like last year when I bought 10 frozen dinners (I am so sick of those now) and if I buy 10 then I get $5 off. I wanted a couple of 2 liter bottles of rootbeer at the 80 cent price. On Wednesday I went in to the store and they only had 2 bottles, so I left. Today they had 9 bottles so I took them all and planned to buy one bottle of something else included in the special. Then I saw the cookies. Milano double chocolate...they were part of the sale. Mmmm. They jumped in to my cart. 2 tubs of butter were also included in the 10 Item sale and they were on my list. I put 2 bottles of rootbeer back because I really didn't want that much rootbeer and I only needed 10 sale items. 7 bottles of rootbeer will last me for months.

I could have escaped for under $20 but no. I needed Tylenol at $9 a bottle and wanted frozen pierogies which were not on sale. I grabbed another bag of chicken because it was on sale for $8 and 3 bags of english muffins on clearance for 99 cents each. My tiny freezer is stuffed. Ok, ok there was also a $5 flat of strawberries...what was I thinking?

Total damage: $65
Savings from specials: $26 although that doesn't really count as 'savings' because I wouldn't have bought some of those things if they were full price.

I really do much better when I avoid shopping altogether. Trying to chase one good price leads to buying way too much that I don't need. No more groceries until April at least!

Money well spent! All that stuff is tasty (except the Tylenol).

I thought about you and your frozen strawberries as I bought the big flat of them. I might end up freezing them. Strawberries for dinner are good once but breakfast and lunch too is a bit much.

What is Tylenol and frozen pierogies? Sounds like anti-freeze and some kind of little animals! Even wikipedia cant help me this time. and what about strawberries, oh yeah, I know what they are.
I am glad I am not the only one who comes unstuck with bargains sometimes. I feel better now!

Frozen strawberries...great in smoothies later. Yum. If you aren't buying too many perishable things...it's not a bag deal.

You could get generic acetaminophen for a lot cheaper than Tylenol. It is the same stuff. Other than that you got pretty good deals so I wouldn't worry about it, you got to spend money sometimes.

Haha Lizzie, you are close :) Tylenol is the brand name for acetaminophen pain killer and pierogies are polish potato/cheese filles pasta. http://www.pierogies.com/

Big Sis, I suppose since I only spent $27 on groceries so far I am still in budget with $65 more. But those $9 items really add up fast.

TightFistedMiser, I tried generic Advil for a while and developed and allergy to it. I have no idea if it was because it was generic but now I have a prejudice against gneric pain killer. Probably all in my head (haha). I had a coupon for $3 off a $10 purchase at Walgreens last week and it expired because I couldn't think of what to buy. Doh!

I'm still working on my last bag of frozen strawberries. They last a long time. How much is included in a flat?

i looked up acetaminophen & found that we call it paracetamol. It is16p from the discount chemist here. Do you want me to send you some. $9 worth would last you pretty much forever at the current exchange rate.

Over The Cubicle, it's like 4 of the little strawberry containers in one big container. My fridge smells like strawberries now.

Lizzie, is it generic Panadol? I looked it up on wikipedia. I suppose I could get a bunch of it from Mexico and save on shipping.
