Tackling The Stuff Monster One Item At A Time

Finally. I didn't have to do any chores at my rental house so I could focus on my own chores today. The first thing I did was to list 3 items for sale on craig's list. The extra washer and dryer sold within 2 hours for $100. Yea! That pays for my plane ticket. I kept the washer and dryer that came from the house because they are newer. Then my cable modem sold for $30. That pays for parking for my trip and some food. That was the modem I had to buy after the phone company told me my house was out of their service area even though I had service there last year. Oh well. I got half of my money back. The other thing didn't sell yet.

Next I filled up my water tank and while I was waiting I decided to move my big pot over to the north side of my RV. Last summer I tried to grow some tomatoes and squash on the south side of the mobile home. I put up tarps to shade it but it wasn't good enough. This year I have my giant pot back (it was in the backyard of the house) and it will get more shade on the north side of the RV and also it will get more attention since I will see it everyday. I am going to collect dish water and shower water for it too. Maybe I'll get more than 3 tomatoes this year.

Tomorrow's plan is to re-arrange some of the stuff in the mobile home so that there is more room to walk than just a small path. And maybe I'll find more treasures to sell.

Congrats on getting rid of some stuff, and for paying for your trip at the same time. Can't beat that!

Your 'getting rid of' posts are inspiring me....that, and the fact that my stuff is going to bury me!

I was looking at your mortgage payment progress sidebar and noticed that for Nov 08 and Jan 09 there was no reduction in the principal. Do you have an interest-only option arm or something like that or did you skip a payment? I am asking because a typical mortgage payment has a portion allotted to principal after the simple interest on the balance for the period has been subtracted.

Hi Sharon Rose, thank you. I've finally reached the point where I can get rid of stuff because I don't need it for the house any more. I think I'm starting to see some progress.

Anonymous, I have a 30 year fixed mortgage. I only put the extra principle payment on the sidebar. The regular payment is usually paid by the renters(when they actually pay). The regular payment subtracts about $300. It isn't very exciting so I don't mention it.
