I wish I had my camera with me. I was out at my property looking through the boxes that I have stored in the mobile home out there. I just happened to look in the bathtub. Sometimes there are small spiders or other bugs attracted by the nearby window. This time there was a baby tarantula!
He was about the size of a silver dollar and very hairy. I occasionally see wolf spiders in my house but wolf spiders are very fast and I can see their eyes (if I get that close to them). This one had the two chelicerae in front of its eyes (yes, I had to look that word up). I consider something that large too big to squish plus it eats bugs which is good. I had an old milk jug handy that I had once used to collect shower water for re-use (see, there is something frugal about this post). I scooped up the tarantula and let him go in to the cactus to hunt icky bugs.
That was just another reminder of the critters that are out there on the property that I am so anxious to get to. Why am I in such a hurry to sell my cozy, mostly bug-free home? It is a trade-off I have to consider if I want to save the most money. I'll be moving out there again this winter. The good thing is that most of the critters will be dead or asleep by then.
