Few Days Left

The gift buying is winding down.  Only a few more gift cards to mail off to nieces and nephews.  Last Friday, I took my nephew to Target to buy a few things for his relatives in Minnesota.  He wandered off to the toy section and I ended up picking the gifts.  I told him this was the last time that I would be buying gifts for his relatives since he will be in college next year and going directly to his grandfather's house.  He claimed poverty and when I reminded him how much money he has in his computer fund, he looked shocked that I would suggest that he use it.  Ah well, I was only suggesting that he put a little thought in to it.  He doesn't need to spend a lot.  It's just nice to bring a little something when visiting someone else's house, especially if you are expecting to receive gifts yourself.

On Saturday, the weather was finally chilly by Arizona standards.  I think the high was in the 50's.  The leaves decided to fall off the trees and I picked the last of the green tomatoes.  The weather change gave me a sinus headache so I took a long nap which was very nice but I still had a headache when I woke up.  In the afternoon, we visited the cat shelter again and I went to my company's dinner.  It was small, only 12 people, and over by 7:30pm.  We have a new-ish boss.  I think he's been around for 2 years.  He just announced that our Chicago office will be closing at the end of next year so everyone is a little sad and nervous.  I don't think they will close my office unless they sell the company but that has also been a rumor going around.  I just need 2 more years and then I could put my semi-retirement plan into action.  If I lost my job today I would need to get another job, at least part time.  I would rent out my house and hopefully have enough money to finish off my barn-shed tiny house on the inside.  I don't think I am going to lose my job soon but I like to have contingency plans just in case.

Only one and a half days of work left this week and then some much needed time off.  I can hardly wait.

No way your nephew is going to beat you in an argument about money (and etiquette LOL!). Nervous stuff about your company, you are getting so close to retiring or at least semi-retiring, hate to see it get upended.

We have had some bizarre weather in NY lately. Your sinuses would be going bonkers. Last Friday, it was 15 degrees in the morning and it barely got into the mid-20s during the day. That night we got about 2 inches of snow. But Saturday the temps rose into the 40s and low 50s with rain which melted everything that wasn't piled up or in the shade. Then Sunday the temps dropped back into the 20s again and have stayed there ever since. You would have a pounding headache.

Definitely pays to have a contingency plan but you are always on top of those things.

I understand the concern about the company's future but even if it is sold it depends on the reason and what assets are being sought by the buyer. Sometimes the employees get to keep their jobs and/or they are trained for new functions or positions. Even if your office eventually closes before your planned retirement/semi-retirement there might be a generous severance package which could close some or all of the remaining gap. Anyway, if Chicago is the next closing and it has at least 1 more year than you all in AZ should have more than that.

It's been consistently warmer than usual here. In fact every year for the last 4 years the Winter seems noticeably warmer than the previous year. A little scary if the trend continues.

Fingers crossed for your job, but agree with the other poster. Have a contingency plan & a cushion, so you have the time to find another backup job (should it come to that).

Enjoy your time off for the holidays!

that kitty looks very comfy with your nephew. I hope things go okay with the office. Was that your old boss that died recently?

Sometimes it is so tempting to jump to the fun stuff like fixing up my barn-shed but if I did and I lost my job early I would definitely need another job so I should just stick with the extra mortgage payments. It would be nice if I got laid off at just the right time and got severance. Maybe it will happen.

Oh yes, plan A B C ...Z. Every month I'm in a little better spot. I even have an "if I quit today how long would my money last" calculator.

Yes, a severance package in 2 or 3 years would be nice. I dread telling my boss that I quit. I would much rather it was their idea.

Thank you! I enjoyed my free time amd cleaned this afternoon. I've put it off for too long. The clutter is taxing my brain.

That kitty was funny. He ignored us until the last 10 minutes and then practically hugged my nephew. It was very cute. The co-worker who died was a relatively new hire who was supposed to be taking over some of my boss's duties. I haven't heard if they will hire someone else. His office is still empty.
