Back To Normal

Things are back to normal here, as normal as can be expected. On Sunday, the physical therapist came by to evaluate my father and she said that he would benefit from physical therapy 3 times a week.  With this recommendation Medicare will cover it.  Then the hospital social worker called the "senior placement specialist" who helped us find a care home for my father that could accommodate his needs.  The lady made all of the phone calls and inquiries for us and then negotiated the price down over $1,000 a month.  I had no idea people like her could be so useful.  She get a commission from the care homes so we didn't have to pay anything.  We were familiar with the places that she called so we already new what the monthly fee was so when she said we could get the lower price we were very happy.

For the rest of the day, my mother and I hung out in Dad's room and watched Olympic hockey.  That is the most hockey I have ever watched in my life.  I left at 5:30pm while they waited for the transport van to show up.  The van was an hour late but they made it to the new place eventually and got Dad settled in.  I took a half day of vacation yesterday (no holiday for me) and helped move my Dad's stuff to his new room.  I really like this new place.  It is very professional.  The place he was at before was a converted house but this place was built to be a memory care facility.  It is like a nice hotel.  There is a circular hallway so that people can walk inside as much as they want, an interior courtyard, a large screen TV in the living room, kitchen and dining area, beauty shop, and directed activities.  It dawned on me that I will never be able to afford to live in a place like this.  If I get dementia, I'll probably end up on Medicaid and have to go to one of the nursing home type of places like where I used to work very, very briefly.  I only lasted a month at that job.  It was awful.  I was still trying to figure out a career and I quickly crossed nursing off of my list.

Enough of that depressing thought.  3 more days of work until the weekend, yay!  I can make it!

Yaay, happy post!
There is a bright side for us though, dementia prevention is on the edge of becoming reality. Apparently people with multiple language skills don't normally get it either, so must be something to do with synaptic pathways, so I am hoping Fahed can take care of me.

Hopefully! Sure would be nice if they found a cure.
