Another Roller Coaster Weekend

I was ready for a nice birthday lunch for my father this weekend but on Friday, my mother calls me and says Dad is in the hospital.  It took a while to get all of the details but I guess he fell on Thursday evening and they called the paramedics to take him to the hospital.  Tucson hospitals are over-flowing with flu cases so they weren't able to move him to a room until late Friday.  They still don't know the exact cause of his vertigo other than his blood pressure was really low.

Anyway, now he is weak and can't walk on his own.  Hopefully this will improve but he can't go back to the group home where he was living if he is too weak to walk on his own because they don't have enough staff to keep him from falling.  We are waiting on the physical therapist at the hospital to assess his situation and recommend a course of action.  Ideally, they will send him to a nursing home that can provide more monitoring (like alarms if he gets out of bed) and exercise so that he can regain his strength.  When he can walk again, he will go back to the group home.  Everything has to be ok'd by the right people so that Medicaid will cover it.  That is the tricky part.  Right now he is stuck at the hospital until we get this straightened out.  Tomorrow it will all come together. I'm being optimistic.

Things are looking up. He has approval to go to a facility where he can get physical therapy. He should be going there tonight and we'll move his things tomorrow. Thank you for all of your thoughts and prayers!
