Back to Work, Much too Soon

Christmas day was pleasant except for the drive but I didn't want my parents to have to drive to my house so driving was my idea and I can't complain.  All presents were a hit.  Dinner was cooked by my sister and was very good.  My father wore the cowboy hat that I gave him (found at the last minute at Target for $15) for probably 2 minutes while posing for this picture and then he put his other hat back on.

We'll keep the cowboy hat as a back-up hat for when the current favorite hat goes missing.

I had to work on Thursday and today.  Only one other person in the office is working so it is really quiet.  And many bloggers are on a break too so I don't even get to read them on my lunch break!  Next week will be very quiet too.  Most people are taking then whole 2 weeks off but I want to save my vacation days.  I have enough days to take 4 weeks off if I wanted to!  I think I will plan on one Friday off a month so that I have a 3 day weekend to look forward to.  I'll save the rest of the days for visitors, appointments and other emergencies.  20 vacation days seem like a lot but they get used one way or another.  I'm contemplating using one next Friday if this nice weather sticks around.  I hear an unpainted shed calling to me!

I hope you paid cash for the hat at Target! :p

I remember my first year of working (1985, started midyear) and it had the same calendar as 2013. I had only one paid discretionary day off (I had taken it already) so with Xmas and New Years falling on Wednesdays I had to work those same, boring days between the two holidays. It wasn't until the 1990s when I had enough paid days off at the end of the year for me to take blocks of days off to rest up.

Happy Holidays to you, Daizy.

Dave, it is terribly depressing to not have any vacation days. I almost quit this job because my last job gave me 3 weeks and this job said I had to be here a year before I got any time off. Luckily, they changed the policy a few months after I started.
