A Very Quiet Night

Since I didn't get any dogs adopted last weekend, I was reluctant to spend my Saturday at another adoption event but I did it anyway.  Turns out it was a very good decision.  Two of my foster dogs got adopted and I even convinced one of the people to try out my super-shy dog as a buddy for the dog they adopted.  I expect that they will return her tomorrow but I have had her for over a year and this is the first time anyone has been brave enough to try her out.  My bedroom is so quiet right now with only my two dogs and my blind cocker spaniel foster who is pretty much my dog anyway.

One of the dogs that I was watching on the pounds' death list was a pretty black and tan rottie and she had puppies today.  I am trying to figure out where I could put a mom and pups that wouldn't drive me crazy like the last ones did.  I don't think I can do it.  I just don't have a space for them.

In the meantime, I did some cleaning and tomorrow I will do more cleaning.  There are dust bunnies under the furniture the size of puppies.  We got a little bit more rain but still not the down pours that usually happen at this time.  Not that I'm complaining.  I don't want any trees to fall over or power poles to get knocked down.  I am very happy that the electricity has not gone out at all.  Back at my mobile home the power would go out a half dozen times during the storms.  And I don't have to worry too much about roads washing out.  No dirt roads at my new house.

If all of my dogs stay adopted I can finally take a Saturday off and not feel like I am missing out.  Maybe I can finally find the time to go back out to my property and start sorting the trash and thrift store stuff.  Well, Saturday is a whole 7 days from now.  A lot can happen between now and then.

You really did have a far more productive Saturday than me, with your adoptions. Having three dogs about the place still seems pretty lively to me but so hard to leave animals at the shelter when you know what is going to happen to them. Can;t you use your old property as a shelter itself, one where no-one gets the chop if they are healthy. So sad.

Daizy, nice to be able to take for granted such things as consistent electricity and local paved roads not washing out, huh? Welcome to the mid-20th century LOL!

You may recall my telling you a few years ago about how I was reminded of you and your one-woman dog adoption team when I had a local story here about abuses at the town-run animal shelter? Well, we had a sad story here a few weeks ago about people in animal rescue vehicles being seen releasing dogs on the New Jersey side of the George Washington Bridge, being let out right on the side of the highway! Too bad you were not there to take down the vehicle license tags and take in the frightened dogs to give them a better life.

Oh boy Lizzie, I have thought about starting a shelter on my property many times. There are a few problems with that. First, location. It is a terrible location if I want to get people to come out and adopt. Second, I have watched many rescues and sanctuaries go under from the cost of caring for all of those dogs. And last, it would be a full time job so I would have to win the lottery first or have an excellent grant writer and celebrity endorsement!

And hot and cold running water, Dave! I love the mid-20th century!

That's very sad that they dumped the dogs. It gives rescues a bad name and the poor dogs, I hope they were rescued for real this time. We have some instances of bad rescues out here. Thankfully it doesn't happen too often. It does seem like there is always one rescue closing down though so everyone has to take in their dogs. Seems to happen at least twice a year.

Hello,
I thinks it's really cool that you do everything you can for these dogs! I also know how hard it is to give up a day off when you know you have so few. Be careful you don't over do it, so that you don't have enough energy for September!

Can't wait =D
