Yay! House News!

Guess what??? The second bank finally signed off on the short sale so the house is mine! I heard the news at lunch today and I immediately scheduled my home inspection and termite inspection for Wednesday. I'm taking half a day off, the first of many half days, I am thinking.

So, this is the timeline for my short sale. House is listed with no pictures. I see the listing and go see it along with others with no expectations because no pictures often means it is trashed inside. I see house and oh my gosh, it is clean and not a fixer-upper. I wonder if the listing price is correct since it is so pretty and it has 1700 sqft. compared to the usual houses in this price range which have 1100 sqft. I quickly make an offer but have to wait the customary 5 days for other people to get a chance. My offer is submitted and the sellers accept.

Then the waiting begins as the offer goes to the banks who hold the first and second mortgages. This house sold for $200,000 in 2006. I offered $90,000. After 3 months of waiting the first bank says YES and the second bank loses some paperwork. More waiting and finally the second bank says YES!

Now it's 30 days of more waiting and hopefully the home inspection and appraisal go through without a hitch. I am really looking forward to long hot showers, lots of water, indoor laundry, dog baths, doggy splash pool in the Summer, central heating, a real kitchen with a real oven, sidewalks, pavement, a secure block wall yard with NO snakes! I could go on and on. Yay!

LMAO @ "no snakes"......I think you wrote that just for me and all my little quips about you and your snake misadventures.

I am still stunned at how low real estate costs in your area. I visited my friend at his new one-bedroom apartment in a co-op. His place cost $170k. My own studio apartment in a nearby co-op would cost a little less but still more than $90k. To think I could pay "only" $90k and get an entire house is mind-boggling (and I could easily pay cash for it LOL!).

Yay indeed!
I wonder how many dogs will you be able to fit in without crossing neighbors.

That's excellent news. I am really pleased for you. That money would get you a mobile home and nowhere to pitch it here. I am trying hard not to be too envious!!

Dave, that snake or snake's' was definitely a motivating factor for buying this house. If it hadn't have been for the snakes I probably would have just toughed it out for another year. I can't handle the extra worry of more snake/dog encounters. Anyway, I'm not moving back out here without a block wall to keep snakes out!

I guess the low house prices make the Summer heat not so bad. Unfortunately, this house doesn't have AC and I haven't figured out where to add a window unit. It will be an interesting Summer!

KoBold, I'm thinking I can get away with 5. I might have to buy some no-bark collars though so that the neighbor never hears them.

Thanks Philo. I hope the dogs like baths because they are going to be getting more than one a year!

Thanks Andy. People are already telling me about their closing horror stories. Noooo!

Thanks Petunia! And speaking of flowers, I can't wait to plant some desert flowers since I will soon have water to keep them alive. The cactus is coming out and lantana and verbena are going in. I love the red and Mexican bird of paradise too.

Lizzie, you all are making me feel very lucky to live around such cheap houses. Makes me appreciate it even more.
