3 Dogs + 1

I brought 3 dogs to the adoption event today and went home with 4 dogs. I'm talented, I know. As we were all packing up, an employee told us that a small white dog had been found in the parking lot. They brought the dog over to us and asked if we wanted to foster it. It was sad, scared, matted and had ticks. One of the employees wanted to keep it but he had to ask his parents first. I offered to take it home and he will let me know if he can have it tomorrow. I took it right over to my friend who is a groomer and she gave it a quick shave.

In the meantime, I found a similar lost dog on the internet but when I called they had already found their dog. I put up a found dog ad so we will see if anyone responds. She is a really cute young dog so we wouldn't have any trouble finding her a home. People ask us for this kind of dog all the time. Of course that puts me back up to 10 dogs. One more to get adopted before Thanksgiving.

I have a concern here. It does not sound like this dog has been taken to a vet or shelter yet, that it went straight home with you? What if it has a microchip or transporter, are you able to scan for that yourself? Other concerns about not going through a shelter are of course you can only take a tax deduction for expenses for dogs you foster for a charitable org, not for ones picked up from individuals unless you are a charitable org yourself. And then there is the question of ownership, I don't think an individual can terminate an owner's rights, only a shelter can do so after a mandatory hold time.

Lizzie, and that is the second dog dumped there in just s few weeks. At least neither were injured.

Anonymous, there is a vet in the petstore and she was brought there first to scan for a microchip but she didn't have one. I do foster for a non-profit although I have not had enough deductions to itemize since I don't have a mortgage so I haven't taken any deduction yet. That will change if I buy a house. In Arizona we don't have a mandatory hold time. Typically 7 days is what our rescue does. The pound only does 3 days. We will file found reports with the shelters and we already put ads on the internet. She certainly looked like she had been a stray for a while with all her matted hair but maybe someone just couldn't afford a groomer.

She's adorable, hope she finds a loving home (looks like she hasn't had one in a while).
