Bad Night

The dogs ran outside to bark at something. That is typical when someone is walking or driving down the road but this time they kept barking with intensity. I went outside to look and I heard it...the rattle. Ugh. A rattlesnake in my yard again. I immediately tried to get the dogs to go inside which wasn't very easy. Finally they were all inside and it was getting dark so I had to leave the snake. I'm afraid it will be there in the morning and yet I'm afraid it won't be there. They say rattle snakes are territorial and he will stick around. Oh great.

Then I notice that one of my foster dogs is drooling. Ya, you guessed it, he was bitten on the nose. Of course it was 8 o'clock so the vet was closed. The only alternative is the 24 hour emergency vet but the rescue group won't cover the cost. That means giving the dog a benedryl and hoping for the best. He seems ok so far. From what I read on the internet, 80% of dogs will recover without treatment. I hope he is one of the 80%.

Tomorrow I have to go check the yard for the snake. I hope I do find him so I can call the relocation specialist to pick him up. If not, I will be worrying that he will come back. I sure wish I had a block wall.

KoBold, don't forget tarantulas and scorpians! I don't want to go outside ever again.

Anonymous, if I had a gun I would have certainly shot the thing when it was threatening my dogs. I'm not a good enough aim with a shovel. I'd probably cut off it's tail while it bit me. It was getting dark so we all went inside and it was gone this morning.

Thanks Barb. He made it through the night so I think he will be ok once the swelling goes down. He is very uncomfortable though.
