Some Homes Are Priced Right

My realtor sends me houses to look at almost everyday. Some are new listings and some have newly reduced prices. This one is a new listing for only $65k (Coincidentally, that is what I offered on the last house. This house actually comes with a water heater and stove and it isn't trashed.)

So, why am I not jumping on this one? If you look out the kitchen window you can see another building. That is an elementary school. I can just imagine how much my dogs will bark every time they hear kids walk by or scream or yell. Even if I paid $6-8K for a six foot block wall fence (it only has chainlink right now), there is going to be too much noise coming from next door.

At least the asset manager for this property knows how to price a house to get it sold. If only all of them would do this we wouldn't have so many hideous and expensive houses clogging up the market. I'm sure my house is out there somewhere. Every once in a while a good one comes on the market and next time I am going to be ready for it.

funny old world, here in the UK, the proximity to a 'good school' can add 25% to a house price............when they are already 250K!

My friend lived next to a school for a few years (in a rental) once. The off-hours were not necessarily a respite because kids often hung out there late at night and made some noise with their partying. One summer there was some construction on the grounds so there were was some heavy equipment and workers making noise at all hours. She could also hear the school bells and PA announcements in the morning although she was usually awake already.

Wow Frugal Queen. How can anyone afford a house? Here houses in a god school district are more popular but I don't think anyone wants to be right next door to the school. Maybe if they had a lot of school age kids.

Dave, my rental house is next to a high school but it is in the back where the softball field is. I heard band practice, field day announcements, and soft balls came over the fence regularly during soft ball season. The worst part was the police helicopters with search lights that seemed to fly over at midnight at least once a week. I guess there were many incidents of break ins and graffiti.
