Moving Along Again

I managed to get up a little early and meet the tile guy at my rental house. He looked over the bathrooms and rattled off a list of things and prices and then said, "Deal?". I said,"Can I have that in writing?". He wrote it down and it came to $325. That was acceptable so he started right away. I was still late to work though because it seems he likes to talk and his topic of interest is healing and channeling golden light energy. Um, ok. I'm all for positive thinking. When I came back at lunch to meet the A/C guy and the plumbers, the tile guy had classical music on the stereo and was diligently cutting tile for the bathroom so I guess that golden light is working.

The rest of the house looks great. It has taken 3 times as long but I am still happy with it.

I like my decorative stripe even if my handyman thought I was nuts and the gap in the living room isn't as noticeable since it has been grouted.

Hopefully this tile will last a long time.

The house next door is rented already. That was fast. I hope mine rents out that fast once it is done. I asked the tile guy about sealing the grout for me and he said that was something I could do myself. I said, ya but I also have to put the closet doors back on, clean, caulk, take out 2 dead bushes from the backyard, scrub the driveway, hang the blinds, etc.... I don't have time for it all.

Anyway, fixing the 2 plumbing leaks cost me $170 and the A/C furnace maintenance was another $70. At least those are done and off my list.

It does look good and hopefully it is fairly indestructable when your new teanants come in.

The tile looks great!
In a previous comment I mentioned that our rental house's tile is 8 years old and still looks like new. However, I forgot that prior to tiling the entire house, we installed tile in the kitchen and foyer about 15 years ago and other than the grout getting darker it look great with no damage. I think you made a very good choice with the tile.

One more thing...I wouldn't worry about sealing the grout. When you seal the grout is "helps" to keep the dirt out and "helps" keep the grout from getting darker.
However, to be effective you have to seal it every year. (yes, every year because the sealer wears out)
Even if you seal it the grout will still darken up. And in 4-5 years will look the same regardless of whether it was sealed or not.
I wouldn't waste the money on it. Just my experience and 2cents.

Lizzie, hopefully! My professional tile guy already pointed out that the grout will crack near the doors. He said to buy matching caulk instead. Does that mean I have to chisel out the grout? Ugh. More chores.

Thanks Jo Ann, now it's all on me to get the odds and ends done.

Dot, I asked him about your comment and he said there were different kinds of sealers and I should get the one that say "impregnator" and it should last 10 years. I guess it is worth a try once...if i have the time.

Thanks Petunia, I like it too. I am glad it looks good. Kind of gives it a cafe feel especially since the bar stools will go there. I am very happy with the look. It was my one special thing.
