Shuttling Puppies

Of course my cute little muppet puppy got adopted right away. He was so cute. I could have kept him forever. He was just like a live stuffed animal. So cuddly. I hope he has a very happy life.

The 4 puppies are almost 8 weeks old and their first advertisement went out today. We have been getting a lot of calls and I realised that I am not prepared for this part. With other dogs, people see a dog's picture and want to meet that one dog. I can arrange to meet them on the weekend or at an adoption event. With little puppies, people want to see ALL of the puppies so they can pick the one they like the best. They can't come to my house because, well, it is not set up for visitors. I have other dogs, one which doesn't like strangers and it is impossible to get this place looking nice enough for people I don't know. Then there is the fact that I live way out of town and often times the people who call live in the opposite direction.

So, tomorrow I am going to take all of the puppies and drop them off with my puppy nanny who is going to keep them at her work until another friend takes them across town so that someone can pick out a puppy. Whew. That's a lot of logistics just to get puppies adopted. Then she will bring the puppies back to me after work. To make things more complicated, there are holidays in there too so coordinating schedules is really difficult. Plus there are the many phone calls that I am not supposed to be answering at work. Too bad I can't make a living with dog rescue. I'll just have to keep trying to balance work and dogs and hope things turn out well.

I can understand both sides of the problem. Too bad they wouldn't be satisfied to choose which puppy they wanted from some pictures.

Maybe to expand on Bridgette's idea a bit ... do you have a cheap videocam like an old flip where you can videotape each puppy and upload to youtube or some similar sight ... it would be a bit tedious at first but probably a lot easier than shuffling a load of puppies across town to get one adopted at a time.

Bridgette, I would want to meet the puppies too. They have different personalities already. One is brave, the other playful, one aloof, and the other prefers people to dogs. I wish I had a real animal shelter where people could come and try out the dogs. If they drove all the way out here I would know they were serious about wanting a dog. Taking them to the pet store is great except I am stuck there and my whole weekend disappears plus I can't take puppies there until they are fixed. One lady I know has her own grooming shop so she brings her puppies to work with her but that is a lot of work too. I'll just have to build my own animal shelter.

Anonymous, some people put videos on youtube but people still want to see them all and interact with them. Next time I will have a better plan in place I hope. Actually the plan was to give the puppies to someone else. It just so happens that she has too many dogs right now so the puppies went to another house.

I can very easily see why you would want to play with the real puppy first, all dog books insist your an idiot unless you do!
