Mortgage Progress For August

I managed to make my extra mortgage payment on the last day of the month. I could have used the money to pay myself back the $800 I owe myself but I didn't. If I leave that negative in my budget maybe I will remember not to go so crazy next month.

So, I put $1,386 towards the mortgage, leaving a balance of $14,635. I'm under $15k! Yea! And that puts me at the 6 month date once again. The mortgage on the rental house should be gone in February. Hopefully nothing else major will happen to postpone my plan, although, I got the mail today and found a medical bill for $1,300. I'm pretty sure my insurance is covering that...at least I hope so. I'll call them tomorrow.

Congrats, Daizy! Once you get under $10k in a few months it will really feel like you are closing in.

Don't you just hate getting letters from health insurance companies? I got one the other day letting me know that my premiums in 2011 will be increasing by 25%. This follows a 20% increase for 2010 so the two years together put the premium 50% higher than it was in 2009 (1.20 x 1.25 = 1.50). Really sucks.

Thanks all! The teens seem to be the hardest part and that 6 month mark keeps trying to move out of reach. It sure is more and more exciting with every month.

That's great, congrats!

I have a question, you are paying your regularly scheduled mortgage payment on the 1st, and then paying as much extra as you can at the end of each month, is that right?

Yep, that's right Petunia. I have $1,400 budgeted for my mortgage. $800 gets taken automatically on the 1st and the rest I combine with any rental income and make an extra payment at the end of the month.
