Letting Go Of Stuff

There are 3 main ways to get rid of stuff. Sell it. Give it away. Or throw it away because it is junk. I have a lot of stuff. The puppies are helping me get rid of my stuff by turning it in to junk which can be thrown away. This is not a good thing since I should really be selling or giving my stuff away before it reaches junk status.

For example, I have a 6 gallon water heater in the mobile home. I haven't used it in 4 years. It might be rusted out inside. I should have taken it out a long time ago and given it to someone who would use it. Instead I kept it around and now the puppies have chewed the cord off. I know cords can be replaced without too much trouble but I think my water heater can be classified as junk now. It could be unsafe and I wouldn't want to be responsible if it blew up.

I have a lot of other stuff that needs to be given away or sold before the puppies turn it in to junk. This could be the motivation I need to speed up my sorting. Either I will be hauling it to the thrift store or I will be hauling it to the dump. Same amount of work. At least the thrift store doesn't charge me $10 per load.

Replacing the cord correctly is fairly simple and is in no way unsafe.

If the heater is worth more than the cost of a cord, than it's worth doing or giving it to someone who can have it done. It hasn't become junk just because a puppy chewed the cord.

you can list 'decluttering' as one of the pups skills when you put them up for adoption. Or you could run an a'dopt a pup, get another item of your choice for free' special.

bugbear, the fact that it sat for over 4 years makes it's safety questionable. Now that I can't easily plug it in to even see if it works makes it 'free stuff'. If no one wants it for free then it is junk.

Over the Cubicle, that would be great if I could give away a dog AND get rid of some stuff. I'm not sure I could even pay someone to take my destructo-pup. She's eating my walls!
