Just A Little More

You might have realised it by now. This blog has taken a turn. I decided to quit waiting to try out the things that I want to do when I am semi-retired. I am going to try some things out now (like dog fostering). Hopefully it won't affect my mortgage payoff plan too much, maybe extend it by a month or two. If my renters pay their rent tomorrow like they promised, I will still be on track to pay off my mortgage in one year and three months. That is if I can keep my new hobby expenses in check.

Since I didn't have my kennel and doggie door set up and didn't have anyone to walk Jojo at noon today, I decided to bring her to work with me. That was interesting. The other people at the office loved her and wanted her to run around the office but I kept my doors closed for most of the day so that she wouldn't have any accidents out of my site. She did have a couple accidents when people came in and she escaped but only I noticed and cleaned them up quickly. She is fine in my RV when I walk her 6 times a day but the office was too much new territory. I still walked her 4 times at work but it wasn't enough.

Getting a puppy is a great diet plan. I am too busy to snack and I have to go for multiple walks. I am assuming this hectic schedule will calm down when the kennel is finished. Oh ya, I miss my sleep too. She woke me up at 5:30am. I used to sleep 'til 6:45. Those days are gone.

I had to go to Petco after work. This is what happens when I am unprepared. I needed a few things and since I had Jojo with me I had to go somewhere that she could go too. I've never taken a dog in Petco before. It was fun. Everyone thought she was very cute. She is very friendly. The cashier asked if she was a rescue and gave me 10% off. That was nice because everything is more expensive there. I spent another $42 on a non-spillable water dish, water bottle for the crate, a collar, and I let Jojo pick out some toys that were on clearance. I don't think she had ever heard a squeaky toy before. She was confused at first but now her squeaky lion is her favorite. She's asleep now which means I should go to bed early because she'll be getting up at the crack of dawn again.

Sounds like JoJo has it made!

Nice to try some things out now instead of waiting until retirement. Waiting for later all the time is no fun.

Jojo won't like it when I leave her tomorrow.

Sometimes I get tired of people telling me I won't like something. The only way to prove them right or wrong is to try it for myself. So far so good.

Hey,

If she has a bit of Blue Heeler or other cattle dog in her, you will not be able to tire her out with walks and runs.

Things that tire dogs like this out are exercises where they have to think. My friends dog (border collie x kelpie) can run with us at the park for a couple of hours and still wants to go and go, but 15 minutes of obedience training he gets tired and wants to have a snooze...

Enjoy your dog, wish I could have one, but hard work in an apartment!

I'm happy you found something that you are passionate about. I'm not a dog person myself but JoJo looks cute.

Yep. Half the fun of doing stuff is trying it out when it is new and when it is a challenge.

Thanks for dropping by Dtrain. She did seem tired after visiting the office and Petco. Maybe it was all the new stuff to take in? Having her in this little RV makes me feel bad that she doesn't have more room to run. I just can't handle all of the walks. I wish I had a giant fence or a dog walker.

Sallie's Niece, I've always been a cat person but it was because I wasn't allowed to have a dog. I guess I'm allowed now. Maybe that's part of the novelty.

Over the Cubicle, the experience opens up new doors too. I think I might like being a dog trainer. Now I'll be able to investigate that kind of job without a lot of risk. That would be a flexible job where I could set my own schedule. Just what I'm looking for!

"I decided to quit waiting to try out the things that I want to do when I am semi-retired. I am going to try some things out now..." is an awesome concept.

I've done a bit of that this year (I bought a house, for example).

(I love that you're fostering the dog. I'm not a dog person at all--too high maintenance for me--but I love animals. It makes me happy when people foster or adopt animals.)

Beth, I've been waiting and planning for so long it is great to get my feet wet a little. Good luck with your house. Mine was fun to decorate and landscape. Easy to go overboard on houses because it's so fun!

Dear Cali,
Give the puppy a chance! She just wants to play with you!
