Stretching Free Food

Last night was our office Christmas dinner. I was determined to take food home this year instead of stuffing myself like I did last year. I helped myself to the pre-dinner rolls, drank 2 drinks and pillaged the appetizers freely. When it was time to order dinner I wasn't even hungry. I ordered the filet mignon and ate the vegetables, nibbled the potatoes and carved only 4 bites off of the steak. The rest went in to a take home box. Of course, everyone noticed that I was taking home most of my meal and joked that I would be eating it for the entire week. I think I should eat it all week just to amuse them.

When the waitress asked if anyone wanted dessert most people said no but then someone said yes and half of the people (including myself) decided to have dessert too. I had a bit of a childhood flashback because I didn't finish my dinner before having dessert but I got dessert anyway (I know, I'm such a rule breaker!). I ate a third and scooted the rest of it in to my box.

Now I have 2 servings of potatoes, 2 servings of cheesecake and 5 servings of beef. If I add my own vegetables and bread, tortillas or potatoes, I can eat my Office Christmas Dinner all week long!

No sense in wasting food, so good for you!

That cheesecake looks really good.

:):)

I'm really going to work on my grocery costs in 2009. I currently spend about £200/$300 for four of us, and I'm determined to get it to £150.

My work party featured tons and tons of food. If only I could have had the guts to take some home.

Too funny - the reaction of your co-workers. I love it.

Wow Laura, that is a big cut. I hope the rest of your family is willing to help so you aren't eating beans and rice all year by yourself!

Rhea, I think I would have been volunteering for clean-up duty at your party or stealing a staff uniform and filling some garbage bags. :P Just kidding.

Anonymous, I bring my co-workers such amusement I hate to ever quit and leave them. Who will they tease if they don't have me? They will be so sad.

Love the graphic!

I would have chowed down on the appetizers, meal, and dessert. I never have leftovers at restaurants (not even Claimjumper but I admit that my belly hurt after that one). I am slim and fit so I don't see the harm. My job involves frequent meals at nice places on the company tab.

I get teased plenty about other frugal habits though so I know how you feel, it's great!

Thanks Alex K! I can still remember stuffing myself at last years Christmas party. What a waste of good food. Today everyone asked if I had food from Saturday's dinner for lunch. Of course!

Thanks bugbear, I've manages to stretch it until lunch tomorrow. I'm not going to make it for 5 whole days, only 4. But it was good for those 4 days!
