My Shopping Summary for Today

This morning I had no motivation to go grocery shopping. I had to go out anyway to a Pampered Chef party and surprisingly, after 2 hours of kitchen gadget banter and some pretty good snacks, I had the energy to go grocery shopping.

Armed with the weekly food ad and a list, I roamed the aisles looking for food that would last all month. I ended up with 15 Stouffer's meals for $1.50 each, 4 gallons of iced tea (I don't like the kind I make myself), 2 bags of chicken breasts, milk, frozen vegetables and some bagels, rolls and english muffins to freeze, plus cookie mixes for a care package later. My freezer is stuffed. I was so busy counting items for the $5 off 10 items promotion that I forgot to keep track of how much I was spending. The total came to $190 but with all the discounts the final bill was $115. Not bad. That is close to the $100 goal I was going for in order to get the 10 cent gas discount. I would have been closer but a couple of impulse buys got in my cart some how...2 packages of mini candy bars $1 each and apple butter not on sale $3.30.

Now the challenge will be to see if I can make it until September without going back to the store. Maybe I'll give myself $10 for the rest of the month. I already know I'll need more carrots. They don't last a whole month.
