The Last Hurrah-Lowering the Price of the House

I told my realtor that I wanted to take my house off the market. The for-sale sign lets everyone know that I am foolishly optimistic in a very slow, over-stocked market. I have guests coming to stay at the end of September anyway. I don't need the added stress of keeping the house in "show condition" everyday for nothing.

The realtor suggested that I lower the price a little and leave it on the market for another 2 weeks just in case. Changing the price will make my listing go back to the top of the MLS listing. So that is what we did. In 2 weeks I will take it off. Then I can focus on renting it out.

At work today we had a presentation on investing for retirement. I was thinking if my house had sold I could retire now! It wouldn't be a comfortable retirement but I could change jobs and find something fun instead of something that will support my current house payments. I will just have to wait a little longer for that dream.

Has your contract with your Realtor expired? If so, consider a new Realtor! This will not just refresh your MLS listing--it will restart the Days On Market tally. This is what a lot of buyers look out to determine your possible level of desperation. We did this after getting nothing but suggestions from our Realtor to lower the price again and again--from her suggested listing price!
