Just When I Start to Make Plans

So, I told the couple from Idaho that they could rent my house for 8 days at the end of September. I was OK with that. I have pretty much accepted the fact that the house isn't going to sell this year. Then today I get an email from someone wanting to rent the house for the school year.

A month ago I contacted a local organization which helps high school age kids who don't have a place to live, finish school and become self-sufficient. Since school has already started I didn't think I would have any interest but today a 17 year old and an 18 year old wanted to rent my house since it is next door to their high school. The organization gives them support, a stipend, supplies and counseling and the students must maintain a certain grade point average.

I had to tell them that the house would be occupied for 8 days at the end of the month. I haven't heard back yet. I know there are risks involved with renting to people that young but there are risks with every tenant. They couldn't possibly be as bad as my previous house guest. OK maybe they could. But at least I know what my house looks like when it's trashed. These pictures are from last February. As long as there is no permanent (or expensive) damage, I will get over it. What is missing from the pictures is the smell. The house reeked of cigars, onions, peppers, garlic and rotten food. It took a week to air it out.
